Obituary

Stephen James Wlodar, 48, of Cumming Georgia, passed away on January 21, 2022.

Steve was born in Grand Haven, Michigan to Cindy and Larry Wlodar on October 11, 1973. Steve graduated from Milton High School in 1992, and then majored in Microbiology at the University of Georgia where he graduated in 1996.

Steve began working at Immucor Inc. while still in High School, and his exposure to the scientific work taking place there set the trajectory for his life’s work.  After transitioning from part time high school work, to college student, to full time employee, he remained with Immuncor for the entirety of his career working in various roles.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman, and he shared a love of outdoor sporting activities passed down from his grandfather through his own father.  Surprisingly, he did not get the fear of snakes passed onto him, and he always had an interest in reptiles. Steve was excited to wake up well before dawn to suffer through miserable conditions in search of a giant buck, or a lunker bass.

Steve loved sports of any kind, but he was especially fond of baseball and football.  Steve played baseball from a very young age through varsity baseball in high school.  He loved to watch and discuss the Atlanta Braves, and he had unwavering love of the University of Georgia Bulldogs football team.  What turned out to be his last Georgia football season ended perfectly, and Steve truly savored the victory. Go Dawgs!

Steve had a great sense of humor and a larger than life persona. He was an excellent storyteller, and quick with his wit and spinning a tall tale.  Once, he even was (falsely) referred to as the funniest man alive.   Please remember and celebrate all of the great things Steve accomplished, and all the smiles he gave us over his lifetime.  He truly was a remarkable man who will be deeply missed.

Steve is preceded in death by his father, Larry Wlodar. He is survived by his children Samantha Wlodar and Dylan Wlodar, his mother, Cynthia Carrington, stepfather, Allen Carrington, brother, Bryan Wlodar, sister, Erin (Joey) Harris, nephews, William Harris and Charlie Wlodar, devoted companion, Lynn Hadden and many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 29th at 2pm at Hickory Flat United Methodist Church.  The service will be officiated by Reverend Dave Benson and Reverend Dee Shelnutt.

Following the funeral, friends of Steve and his family are welcomed to celebrate Steve’s life at his parents home, 360 Bennington Place, Canton, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes to honor Steve is requested to make a contribution to his children’s college fund via Allen Carrington.
