Russell Godwin Turner, III, age 76, passed away on May 9, 2023 after a very hard, tough, but very brave battle against metastatic pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 19, 1947. He was the son of Russell G. Turner, Jr. and Jean Snowden Turner. He was the oldest of four. His younger brother, Richard W. Turner, predeceased him in the year 1983. Surviving brother is Christopher S. Turner, and a sister, Nancy T. Hughes. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Briarcliff High School in 1965. He attended West Georgia College and Ole Miss. Later on he attended bible college in Texas. He served for a period in the US Navy on the ship Arcturus (AF-52). He was in sales and he had a natural gift for talking and meeting with people. He loved watching all sports, baseball, basketball, football, and he was a true Crimson Tide Alabama fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and just hanging out with his friends. He loved his family dearly and especially looked forward to spending time with family on holidays. He was a strong Christian and loved to share his faith and preach the gospel. At any opportunity upon meeting and talking with someone, he would always bring up the gospel and share the plan of salvation. He always handed a leaflet or printed copy of his favorite healing scriptures to people he would meet. He would share how he loved the Lord and how he looked forward to going home and being in the arms of the Lord and being with loved ones who had predeceased him. His favorite verse was Psalm 118:17 "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord."
