Patricia “Pat” Elizabeth Doty, age 82, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10th, 2020. Pat was first and foremost a true lover of Jesus, standing in prayer for many and sharing the hope in Christ with many through her entire life. She is remembered warmly by her family as a wise and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her kindness was blended with a spicy Irish wit. She enjoyed swimming, walks and playing piano. She loved singing hymns, was widely read, and enjoyed deep conversations. She was a prolific wordsmith, writing thousands of letters to her family that are now archives of a life so full of Jesus, love, and sacrifice. A true listener, she asked questions in conversations that brought out each person's life story, making them feel safe and loved.
Born on May 4, 1938 in Fort Crampel of the Central African Republic, she spent most of her first twelve years there with her missionary parents. Pat graduated from Wheaton High School in Wheaton, Illinois in 1956 and attended Wheaton College graduating with honors in a BA of Education in 1960. Married to Calvin Doty in 1960, they served together with Overseas Missionary Fellowship from 1965 to 2002 in the Philippines and elsewhere in Southeast Asia. Her work ranged from church planting on Mindoro Island to parenting a host of boarding school children attending Faith Academy to living among the poor of the slums of Manila. In retirement they lived near family in Pasadena, California until moving in 2015 to live with family in Gainesville, Georgia.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents William Nimmo & Elizabeth O'Brien Nimmo and her brothers Andy Nimmo and Ridley Nimmo. She is survived by her husband Calvin Doty of Gainesville, Georgia; her children Brian Doty (Paula) of Madison, Wisconsin; Garth Doty of Tucson, Arizona; Raquel Cooke (Kevin) of Gainesville, Georgia; and Lisa Gray (Tim) of South Pasadena, California; sixteen beloved grandchildren, and three beloved great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Tim Nimmo and sisters-in-law Barb Evans Nimmo and Mitzi Hoffman Nimmo.
