Melissa Ann Enzor Connor, 76, of Cumming, Georgia passed away on Friday, June 25, after bravely fighting cancer for nearly 3 years.
The only child of the late Kirk and Grace Enzor, Melissa was preceded in death on July 27, 2020 by her devoted husband of 50 years, Fred John Connor. She is survived by beloved cousin Saralyn Laughlin of Fort Collins, Colorado, and by numerous members of Fred’s family. Melissa will also be missed by countless groups of friends, including those in Fred’s and her Georgia Bulldog Clubs and at the Cumming Aquatic Center, where she regularly engaged in classes prior to her diagnosis.
Melissa is a graduate of Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, and Headland High School in East Point, GA. She retired from Hampstead Lighting in 2016 after a dedicated accounting career spanning several decades, with responsibilities that reached well beyond traditional accounting. Former colleagues recount her breaking of gender barriers in her traditionally male-dominated profession.
In addition to avidly supporting Georgia Bulldog football with Fred (who together once had a nearly 30 year streak of not missing a single live game), another great joy of Melissa’s included travel, and she recently recounted her favorite destination memories of Italy, Hawaii and Alaska. She was a lifelong Cat Mom, and leaves behind sweet Geno, a loyal companion of 6 years.
Often referred to as “Missa” by Fred, Melissa was well known for her big personality, despite her small stature. She loved flowers, gardening, hummingbirds, and anything in the color pink. Melissa was uniquely feisty and fiercely loyal, and loved to light-heartedly “harass” anyone as she saw fit, including Fred, who she could stop in his tracks with a perfectly timed sideways glance. Nieces and nephews will forever remember her manicured fingernails, ready to tickle for a good laugh or poke for a good, and probably appropriate, alternate message.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Fred & Melissa’s home in Cumming, GA on Saturday, July 10 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions to the University of Georgia Football Support Fund with tribute to Fred & Melissa, or checks made out to the UGA Foundation and mailed to the address below:
