Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marcus “Keith” Stowers, 76, of Dawsonville on Sunday, September 18th after a prolonged illness.

He was born in Dawsonville, Georgia on April 23, 1947 and was the son of Thomas Teasley Stowers and Frances Howser Stowers. He was the grandson of Robert David Howser and Ola Burt Howser and Lewis Green Stowers and Lilla Teasley Stowers. Keith graduated from Dawson County High School in 1965, graduated Young Harris College with his Associate Degree of Arts in 1967, he went on to achieve his Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Georgia in 1968, his Master of Education in 1971 and his Specialist in Education in 1979. He was a member of the Dawsonville Baptist Church. On May 28, 1950, he married the love of his life, Sandra Gerrells Stowers. Keith served in the Army National Guard from 1968-1974 and worked as a teacher, later as the Dawson County School Superintendent from 1975-1979 and retired as an Educational Consultant from Pioneer Resa in 1998. He loved God, his family, planting flowers, fishing and, of course, cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs. He was a devoted husband, beloved father and doting grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, of 53 years, his daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Vince Barrett of Dawsonville, his grandsons Keith Douglas Lee of Barnesville, Robert David Lee of Dawsonville and his adopted grandson Kevin Dollar of Dawsonville. He is also survived by his brothers Steve Stowers (Cindy), Allyn Stowers and sisters-in-law Diane Stowers and Carolyn Ingram (all of Dawsonville), brother-in-law Doug Gerrells (Chris) of Dalton, sister-in-law Maxine Crane (Herbert) of Camilla, sister-in-law Bernice Davis of Hoschton as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Beth Stowers Lee of Barnesville, his oldest brother, Tommy, sister-in law Monica Hamilton (Jerry), brother-in law Rainey Davis, his parents, grandparents as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
