Lois Helen (Mattson) Jones
Lois Jones passed away peacefully at her home on April 24, 2023. Lois was born February 15,1936 in Minneapolis, MN, the fourth daughter of Gertrude and Leo Mattson. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bill Jones. Lois and Bill grew up in Minneapolis and were high school sweethearts and married in 1956. Children came right away, and Lois raised her family of four in a series of places (Minneapolis, MN; Chicago, IL; Stamford, CT; Peekskill, NY; Atlanta, GA; Ridgefield, CT; and Raleigh, NC) as they blazed Bill’s 37-year career with IBM. Much of their life with kids was spent in the Atlanta area, but Lois made cherished friends everywhere she went. In retirement, Lois and Bill spent several years in the GlenLakes community of Weeki Wachee, FL. She enjoyed the games of tennis and golf (she could hit it straight, and she could putt); she had a seemingly countless number of talents and used them skillfully. She was excellent at sewing and even better at making cookies. She was plain spoken, honest, productive, and strong. She had a mid-western American sensibility. She was extraordinarily generous. She was sharp and witty. She was smart and competent. She could throw a party with pizazz. She was fun. She was the “hostess with the mostess” and loved to entertain. Her cooking was loved by all. She was a great friend. She loved God and her neighbors. She served her community everywhere she went. She was elegant and, as a friend recently described her, she was "classy." Her final years were spent in Cumming, GA in the Brookhaven at Lanier Ridge neighborhood, where she played weekly bridge and loved all her neighbors. She loved her parents, her three older sisters (who all predeceased her) and their large families, her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grands. And they loved her and will miss her more than words can tell. She is survived by her children; Greg (B.J.), Kathy, Laura (Art), Mike (Stephanie); grandchildren, Katie (Pat), Abigail (Chris), Emily, Forrest, Sam, Gracie, and Brady; great grandchildren, Hendrix, Leo, Phoenix, Romeo, Paul, Clara, and Bowie as well as other family, numerous friends, neighbors, colleagues and Anessa (her caretaker). Her ashes will be interred alongside her husband’s at Good Shepherd Catholic Church 3740 Holtzclaw Road Cumming, GA 30041. There will be a private gathering for family at a date to be determined. Donations may be made in her memory to: St. Vincent de Paul Society 2212 Glenridge Lane Cumming, GA 30041.
