Kevin Christopher Lloyd died Friday, September 4, 2020 at home surrounded by his wife, Kathleen, and their two children Dalton and Jillian. Kevin was born in June 1959 in Jacksonville, FL. As the oldest of three children, he became very responsible at an early age and was often left in charge of his two younger siblings while his mother worked multiple jobs to support them.
Kevin was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Kevin spent his professional life mentoring and coaching people, encouraging them to grow in their career, to grow their franchise business or to improve their technique as a swimmer or runner. About 10 years ago, Kevin began coaching high school swimming first with Pinecrest Academy and then with West Forsyth High School. He received tremendous joy from working with young people. When Kevin’s condition prevented him from being there in person, he would watch videos of the swimmers to provide feedback and suggestions. He continued to share his guidance even up to the week prior to his passing.
Kevin was an athlete most of his life. Although he did not start swimming until 15, his natural talent and hard work propelled him far. He was a member of the State Championship Free Style Relay Team his junior year at Dunwoody High School and received a swimming scholarship to Georgia State. In his late 40’s, Kevin decided to pursue a life-long dream of competing in triathlons. He competed in countless triathlons including 3 half and 3 full Ironman competitions, the highlight being the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i in 2011.Kevin Lloyd, you are an Ironman!
Kevin was preceded in death by his mother Sandra de Castro Meredith.
The family wishes to thank our countless friends who supported us by taking Kevin to treatments following his stem cell transplants (often showing up at 6 am and staying with him until late in the afternoon). Kevin absolutely loved spending hours talking with people building or re-building connections. Additionally, we have tremendous appreciation for the phenomenal doctors, mid-levels, nurses and staff at the Blood and Marrow Transplant Group of Georgia.
A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Bald Ridge Marina Chapel in Cumming, GA, a location of special relevance to the family. We encourage anyone who wishes to share a few words, funny story, etc. about Kevin during this service.
In lieu of flowers, Kevin’s wishes were for donations to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, the American Cancer Society or Atlanta Blood Services.
