Joan Cain Eagan, 91, of Cumming, GA passed away on August 26, 2021. Joan was born November 11th, 1929 to Loretta McKinney and John Cain in Urbana, Illinois. She had one brother, John Richard “Jack” Cain who preceded her in death.
She met Albert “Al” Eagan at the University of Georgia, and the two were married in Athens, Georgia on July 15th, 1950. The couple recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.
While her new husband, Al, was hospitalized for a long-term injury sustained in the Korean War, Joan was proud to teach illiterate military draftees reading and writing skills at Camp Gordon in Georgia. Later, the couple settled in Forest Park, Georgia where their children Michael and Gail were born. Joan became active in community affairs and the First Baptist Church of Forest Park. She and husband Al moved to Cumming, Georgia in 1989.
Joan’s life was one of versatility in both work and pleasure. She was an accomplished watercolor artist whose work was marketed for charitable causes and displayed in her family’s homes. Her times spent in Florida with husband Al were among the favorite of her life.
She was active in her children's schools, where she proudly worked as a substitute teacher. Joan also dedicated her time to the First Baptist Church of Forest Park and the First Baptist Church of Cumming, paying particular attention to underprivileged youth. At the First Baptist Church of Cumming, she, along with other members of the Welcome Sunday School Class, produced and distributed literally thousands of comfort pillows to the Hospice Service for their patients.
While living in Forest Park, Joan worked for Clayton County in both the Automobile Tag Office and the Probate Court. She also served with the County Elections Board for several years.
Joan’s wit and humor will be long remembered by her friends and family, as will the charitable leadership she displayed throughout her life.
Services will be held Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 at 2 PM at the McDonald and Sons Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia, preceded by visitation from 1 and 2 PM. She will be buried in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
