Mr. Jack Edward McGaha Sr., age 89, of Cumming, Georgia passed away peacefully on March 22, 2021. Jack grew up in Brevard, North Carolina and attended Brevard High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict. Upon leaving the Army, Jack married the love of his life, Doris Ferguson McGaha. They were married in 1953 and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he attended North Carolina State University.

After graduating from NC State, he went on to work in manufacturing industry. In his free time, he developed a passion for woodworking and learned to craft many items, from small pieces to furniture. Later, Jack and Doris started the Village Shoppe, a card and gift shop in Doraville, Georgia where they sold greeting cards, his own handmade woodworking items, and other crafts from local artisans.

Jack always enjoyed new technology and it was not an uncommon sight to see him taking pictures with the latest camera at family reunions, athletic events of his grandchildren, and other special events. When he wasn’t snapping pictures, he could often be seen using his computer to put together photo-histories of the family, made from pictures and stories about the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

After retirement, the couple moved to Fort Myers, Florida, where Jack enjoyed their life together of going to the beach, sightseeing, staying in touch with family and friends. During Christmas time, Jack and Doris wowed their family, friends, and neighbors with an expansive and tremendous miniature Christmas village display that Jack was proud of and brought joy to anyone who saw it.

Later, the couple spent time with their children living in Cumming, Georgia, Mena, Arkansas, and Saint Johns, Florida.

Jack was a devout Christian man, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His passions included spending lots of time with Doris, photography, genealogy, and catching up with friends from his high school days. The couple attended and served at North Peachtree Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Fort Myers, Johns Creek Baptist Church and Fruit Cove Baptist Church.

Jack and Doris were always together, enjoying the company of each other and their large family; exactly where he wanted to be and what he wanted to do.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Viola and Joseph “Ed” McGaha and his sister, Josephine McGaha McCrary. Jack is survived by Doris, his wife of 67 years, his daughter, Marian and her husband, Fred Kilgroe, his daughter, Susan and her husband, Dr. Richard Lochala, his son, Jack Edward McGaha, Jr., and his daughter, Diane and her husband, Gregory Grant. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and his sister, Mary Elizabeth McGaha Stiles.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 26 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory, Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at
