Geraldine Helen Butler

July 17, 1926 ~ March 13, 2020 (age 93)

Geraldine (Gerry) Butler passed away peacefully on March 13, 2020 at the age of 93. She was born July 17, 1926 to Richard Hass and Mary Robinson Hass in Printice, WI. Gerry met her husband, Melvin Butler of Greensboro, GA at a USO party honoring officers from overseas. They met playing a game of "pick a shoe", where each female would throw one shoe in the pile and an officer would pick one and match it up to the female for a dance. The only woman Mel ever ever saw was Gerry so he made sure he found her matching shoe. And so their love story of 70 years began. Gerry was employed with ATF for many years and retired in 1983. Throughout those years and the rest of her life, her family, friends and church came first. She loved unconditionally. Gerry loved birds, animals, reading and children. She enjoyed many years of painting, sewing and various hobbies. All the while volunteering at the local hospital, the girls school and church. She was a long-time member of Cumming First United Methodist Church, and members of the community for 25 years. For all who enjoyed knowing Gerry, her legacy will be her endearing smile, sweet heart, loving and giving spirit, living a life of honesty and integrity, and most of all her family. Gerry was predeceased by her husband of 70 years and is survived by her daughters, Barbara Harris and Cindy Butler, grandchildren, Kirk Harris, Todd (Kim) Harris, Clinton (Lisa) Williams, and Kellie (Jay) Alexander and great grandchildren, Kendall Harris, Dylan and Aidan Williams and Holland and Julia Alexander. The Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Geraldine will be buried with her husband at the at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the General Fund of Cumming First United Methodist Church. Condolences may be expressed at Arrangements by McDonald and Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Dr. Cumming, GA 30040  (770)866-9899
