Obituary

Fred John Connor, 73, of Cumming, Georgia passed away on Monday, July 27, after suffering a stroke on July 14.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Melissa Enzor Connor and sister, Mary Martha Connor Henry of Chickamauga, GA. His parents, Paul Daniel Connor, Jr and Mary Ellen Schneider Connor, and brother Paul Daniel Connor III preceded him in death. Nieces and nephews include Carrie Connor Blankenship of Atlanta, Keith Connor of Buford, Katherine (Kate) Henry Harris of Chickamauga, Carrigan Henry Prado of Woodstock, and David Connor of Suwanee. He will also be missed by countless groups of friends, including those at Church of the Good Shepherd, where he was a devoted member.

Fred is a 1969 graduate of Georgia State University with a BS in Business Management, and Briarcliff High School. He retired from the United Parcel Service in 2007 after 31 years of service.

In addition to his family, other great joys in his life included University of Georgia football, his many German Shepherds, coffee and chocolate. Asking him to carry a cell phone or eat a green vegetable would have been met with a resounding “NO.” He regularly met with friends for trap and indoor range shooting, and was an active member of the service organization Knights of Columbus. He was justifiably proud of his 120 daily pushups and miles walked with his dogs, and the amount of firewood he split by hand year round.

Fred was curious and inquisitive, always researching in order to learn more about any number of topics, and loved to share the things he had learned with those around him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd in Cumming, GA on Saturday, August 8 at 1:00 pm. Due to the existing COVID environment, in person sanctuary attendance will be limited, but overflow and outdoor seating will be available. For those unable to attend or otherwise prefer to watch via live stream, it will be available on the church website at www.gsrcc.net.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions to the University of Georgia Football Support Fund with Tribute to Fred, or checks made out to the UGA Foundation and mailed to the address below:
