Florence Jane LaSure

February 19, 1940 ~ July 17, 2020 (age 80)

Florence Jane LaSure, 80, of Alpharetta, Georgia passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020, after a brief illness.  No services are currently scheduled.  Florence (“Flo”) is survived by her brother Fred (Gail) Schwab, daughter Sheryl (Mike) Dusek, son David (Robin) LaSure; grandchildren Natalie Dusek, Jed Dusek, Colin LaSure, and Miles LaSure; and her cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Ms. LaSure was born Florence Jane Schwab in Buffalo, NY, the first child of Frederick Schwab and Ruth McPherson Schwab.  She graduated from Delevan-Machias High School in 1957 and attended Alfred State Technical Institute.  She was a member of the Pi Nu Epsilon Sorority where she made lifelong friendships and graduated in 1959 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science.

As a young wife and mother, Flo was active in the New York State Jayncees, and held a variety of leadership positions including secretary, vice-president, and president.  Her volunteer service continued as a founding board member of the Camillus Figure Skating Club, where she served as club president and test chairman.  Flo spent countless hours sewing costumes, organizing the club’s annual ice shows, planning test sessions, and driving her daughter to ice rinks across the state.

After moving to Alpharetta, GA in 1988, Flo worked as a Medical Assistant and later as Mortgage Processing Specialist and Real Estate Assistant.  She also served on the board of her Homeowners’ Association.

Flo loved to dance and described dancing as “my joy”!  She was active in the Atlanta Ballroom Dance Community until shortly before her death.  She took lessons, participated in competitions, and worked part-time as a receptionist at several local studios, including most recently Ballroom Impact Atlanta.

Flo’s father and three uncles served in WWII.  She liked to tell the story of her father buying her ice skates and taking her skating on the day he came home from the war.  In lieu of cards or flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (www.vfw.org.)
