Emily Christine Thorne of Cumming, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 2, 2021. She lived with her daughter, Patsy Butman and is also survived by her three sons, David Thorne of Linwood, New Jersey; Tim Thorne of Sedona Arizona; and Steve Thorne of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Born in Concord, Virginia, Emily lived for 89 years. She joined her husband Philip Thorne in heaven. Her children wish to convey that Emily and Phil lived a life serving in the church and community and blessed everyone who knew them. Emily is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Thorne loved being a mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother. She spent countless hours outside attending her flower and vegetable gardens. Music delighted her and she blessed numerous churches in Maryland, Virginia and Georgia with her piano and conducting skills.
Emily’s love for music was infectious to her children and grandchildren. All of her children played musical instruments and there was rarely a moment of silence at family gatherings as we gathered around the piano to sing and play. “Grandpa” Thorne said he couldn’t read or play music, but that was OK because somebody had to listen!
It should not go unsaid that Emily’s daily routine until the day she died was spending her first waking minutes reading the Bible and ending that time with prayer. What a powerful legacy to leave for us who remain.
On Saturday, April 17, visitation will take place at 2:00 p.m. at McDonald & Son Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 p.m. on location.
See details below and well as a live-service video option. The video will remain on the site for one year. The livestream service will take place on our website underneath the obituary about 15 minutes before service start time.
