Obituary

Doris Hazel Hooks Brown, of Cumming, GA, left her earthly home on January 6, 2021,  leaving a family she cherished. She will be greatly missed !

She leaves her daughter, Melanie, and husband Brad Curtis; her sister Helen Dempsey;  her grandchildren, Jessica and Jason Cole, Chris and Marie Brown, Julie Estep, Ashlee  and John Woodruff, Jason and Glynn-Glynn Brown; her 11 great grandchildren;  daughter-in-law Juanita Brown and husband John Cruz, and many cousins, nieces,  nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 72 years,  Johnson W. “Dub” Brown and two children, Mark and Judith.

Doris was born at home in Kennesaw, GA, July 8, 1925. She moved from there at the  age of 2 and settled in Rome, GA, until moving to Atlanta when she was 14. She  attended Girls High and enjoyed skating in Grant Park near their home. After meeting  Dub through mutual friends in 1942, they soon married and Dub joined the Navy on  their wedding day. When Dub returned from WWII, they settled in Chamblee, GA, to  raise their family. They both worked hard to establish and run Brown Auto Service for  over 60 years. She became the “first lady” of Chamblee when Dub was elected Mayor  in 1980. She was very involved at Chamblee First Methodist Church and later at  Cumming First Methodist - teaching Sunday School and serving in every way she  could. She loved family reunions, Lions Club, puzzles and games, sewing, cooking,  PTA and writing poetry. Her 95 years were filled with love of family, many  accomplishments, hard work, and fun - she made the world a better place !

Because of Covid, there will be a private family graveside service at Georgia National  Cemetery in Canton, GA on Monday, January 11 at 11:30. Donations can be given in  her honor to the angels at Loving Care who helped her in so many ways ! (Loving Care  Senior Concierge, 5935 River Rush Court, Sugar Hill, GA 30518) OR The Wounded  Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) - helping others was what she did  best !
