Donald J. Maloney died at his home in Sugar Hill, Georgia, on Fathers Day, June 19th surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dolores "Teri" Maloney and his two sisters Sally Maloney Stentstrom and Ruth Grinstead. He is survived by his 5 children, Joe Maloney, Tim Maloney, Kathy Head, Kevin Maloney and Kelly Ettorre, his 2 son in laws, 2 daughter in laws and 21 Grand Children and Great Grand Children.
Don was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 10th 1930 to the late Joseph Maloney and Florence Kelly. Don enlisted in the Air Force in 1948. 2 years later, while stationed in Delaware, he met and married the love of his life, Dolores Teresa Bautista.
Don attained the rank of Master Sergeant in the Air Force. His jobs were in the medical field as a Laboratory Technician and eventually the NCOIC of Laboratory Services.
Don's military career took him and his family all over the world. Stationed in Greenland, Nagoya, Japan, Whiteman AFB in Knob Noster, Missouri, Wheelus AFB in Tripoli, Libya and TAC Headquarters Base Hospital at Langley Air Force Base, in Hampton, Virginia.
After 22 years in the Air Force, Don retired, moved to South Florida to be near his parents, then to Texas to be near 2 of his 5 children then eventually, Sugar Hill, Georgia.
Blessed with a large and loving family, he was completely adored by his 5 kids and his 21 GrandChildren and Great GrandChildren. Also blessed with many lifelong friends, especially by many of his children's friends, he never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
In his early 70's Don started singing in Nursing Homes. He brought much joy and love to the elderly people he entertained. He loved to sing and would enter Karaoke contests in local restaurants. He was so proud of himself when he brought home a first place prize from Champs in Alpharetta, GA. He sang at many family occasions, bringing the house down at his own 90th birthday party.
An Avid Braves Fan, at 92 years old he could tell you all their stats and all the players names going back many years. He was so excited when he lived to see the Braves win the National Championship in 2021.
If you ask those who knew him best they will tell you it was his fabulous sense of humor and his capacity to take a regular story and make it funny and so entertaining you would hang on every word. A natural comedian, he made everyone laugh with his imitations of Walter Brennan, Fred Sandford, Archie Bunker, Gomer Pyle and many more. Having him retell an episode of a sitcom was funnier than the actual show. He was an Irish Showman, whose jokes, singing, dancing and stories brought a smile to everyone's face.
A man who dedicated his life to Country, Family and Friends, Don will be dearly missed but we take comfort in knowing he will be dancing the jitterbug with his beloved Teri and entertaining everyone in Heaven.
The Family wishes to thank Capstone Hospice Team for their service, dedication and care of their father.
