David A. Berry, residing recently in Cumming, GA, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on the morning of August 18th.

He was born on Nov 2, 1935 in Millersburg, Ohio and moved to Akron with his parents and siblings where he lived in the area for almost 65 years. He worked at ARCO, Sunoco, and Atlantic as a gasoline truck driver as well as working part-time jobs with Roadway Express Trucking, at Marathon Gas station and at Mike’s Arco where he worked with his son. After relocating upon his retirement from truck driving to Phoenix, Arizona, he continued to work at Safeway Stores until 2010. He loved sports, gardening and animals and raised several dogs including his beloved Weimaraner, Tom. His favorite times were with family and close friends enjoying sports, being together, fun activities, food and everyone’s favorite beverage, especially beer. He was lovingly referred to as Uncle Dave by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He was a kind, hard-working, compassionate man that loved God and who earned the respect of others with his integrity and pleasant nature. He was generous and caring and humbly made the world a better place. He was the type of person that everyone that knew him liked him and had nothing but kind words regarding him. He married his wife of 42 years, Darla, in 1967 and adopted her son, Garin, as his own in 1970. His title of DAD was one of the things that he was most proud of and he was deeply devoted to that responsibility. He was a loving Grandpa to two grandsons and three step-grandchildren. He moved to Cumming, GA to be with his son and beloved, daughter-in-law, in 2012 and was a continual blessing and source of joy to all that he met. In his later years, David valiantly fought Parkinson’s, sciatica, and mild dementia. He stayed positive and inspired those he met until the day he passed from this earth.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darla Berry; parents, Fred and Isabel (Shilling) Berry; brother Fred Berry II and wife Vicky and nephew Fred Berry III; sister Martha Burke and husband Paul Burke and nephew Berry Burke; Sister Lorena Hall and husband Manning Hall; and nieces Sue Nichols and Annie Jones, as well as nephew David John Jones. He is survived by his son, Garin, and daughter-in-law, Melissa; dear sister, Barbara Jones; beloved brother, Robert Berry; grandsons Brock and Jacob Berry; and step-grandchildren Chelsea Hall, Tim Walters Jr., and Caitlyn Walters along with a large number of nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends as well as his lifelong Best Buddy “Smiley”, Robert Hill, and his dear Georgia friends, Jerry Kelley and wife Michelle.
