American Veteran 01

Charles "Bo" Edward Haywood

September 21, 1941 ~ October 6, 2020 (age 79)

Obituary

Charles Edward “Bo” Haywood, Sr. went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2020 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Jackson, Mississippi on September 21, 1941, Bo was the youngest of Frances and William Haywood’s five children.

In 1963, Bo graduated from the University of Mississippi with a math degree. He treasured his Ole Miss memories particularly his brotherhood in Sigma Chi fraternity. Bo married his college sweetheart Diane Deuschle with whom he shared his life for 57 years.

Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army, Bo proudly served our Country for seven years. While stationed in West Berlin, Germany, Bo was selected as an honor guard at Spandau Prison which housed notorious Nazi war criminals. During the Tet offensive, Bo served as an embedded infantry advisor inside a Vietnamese battalion. Following Vietnam, Captain Haywood served at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. A decorated soldier, Bo was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Throughout his life, Bo always remained a soldier at heart.

Bo moved to Atlanta to work for his brother Robert at Southeastern Metal Products. He earned a Master of Accounting Degree from Georgia State University. In 1979, Bo founded Industrial Sales Company, a successful small business in which he represented Morris Coupling Co. and Monitor Technologies for several decades. Bo was always known for being impeccably honest particularly in his business dealings.

Bo led by example with a true servant’s heart. As Deacon and Deacon Emeritus at Indian Creek Baptist and Johns Creek Baptist, his devotion to the church and its ministry was exemplary.

Bo fought a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, a consequence of Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. Through it all, he remained kind, humble, and grateful for his many blessings.

Bo is survived by his Sigma Chi sweetheart and loving wife Diane Deuschle Haywood; 3 children: Charles Edward “Ed” Haywood, Jr. (Kelly), Amy Diane Haywood Hughes (Lee), and Heather Ann Haywood French (Lee); siblings: William Thomas Haywood, Jr., Helen Sue Haywood Hahn and Frances Ann Haywood Ramsey; and 8 grandchildren: Jennings Lee Hughes, Jr., William Haywood Hughes, Harrison MacArthur Hughes, Victoria French Changas (Angelo), Megan French Holcombe (Drew), Emilee Ann French, Robert Edward Haywood, and Carson William Haywood.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 1:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 pm at Johns Creek Baptist Church. The service will be broadcast live on JCBC.org. A private burial will be held at Georgia National Cemetery on Monday, October 12, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, Bo’s family requests contributions to Johns Creek Baptist Church Missions in his memory.
