Obituary

Bruce Joel Whitney, Sr., age 81, of Cumming, GA, and previously, Seekonk, MA passed away after battling a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his parents:  William Joel Whitney and Ellen Enos Dias and his brother, William Henry Whitney, all of East Providence, RI.

Bruce is survived by his wife: Sandra Correia Whitney; son: David Joel Waterman (Beth) of Houston, TX; son: Michael Edward Waterman of Melbourne, FL; son: Bruce Joel Whitney, Jr. of Pawtucket, RI; son: Jamie Whitney (Linda) of Westerly, RI; daughter: Wendy Lynn Thompson (Will) of Winston-Salem, NC; step-daughter: Allyson Marie Ponte (Paul) of Cumming, GA; sisters: Nancy Lee McLaughlin (Robert) of Wakefield, RI; Patricia Jean Collins of Fort Myers, FL;

Beverly Ann Harris of East Providence, RI and Rosemary Hastings (Lee) of East Providence, RI; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Bruce was owner of A.T.C. Construction, Bruce J. Whitney & Sons Construction, and worked for many years as the Outside Superintendent for William Bloom & Sons Construction, all in East Providence, RI.  He later opened two antique businesses: The Wooden Keyhole in Rehoboth, MA and Antiques of Seekonk, in Seekonk, MA.  He loved restoring old pieces of furniture to their former glory.

Bruce was a veteran who served his country and loved this nation.

Bruce was also a huge fan of the New England Patriots.  His love for pets, especially the many he and his wife Sandra adopted throughout the years, led him to become a volunteer for the Save A Pet Society of Seekonk, MA.  He worked passionately to support that organization for many years.

His jokes were always a treat, no matter how many times he told them.  He had an infectious smile that lit up the room.  His love for family and friends, generosity and wit will be sorely missed by so many.

Finally, his faith and love for the Lord kept him going for so long and we know he is finally at rest with Our Savior.

Donations may be made to the charity of your choosing in his memory.

Memorial Services will be announced at a later date.
