Bette L. (LaPlaca) Martinelli

1932 - 2021

McDonald and Son Chapel

Bette (LaPlaca) Martinelli, age 89, died on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at the caring and loving community of The Villas at Canterfield in Cumming, GA. From her birth in Bridgeport, CT on January 11, 1932 to her death she nourished people around her with love, and faith. She was born to Salvatore and Rose (Siragusa) LaPlaca, and was the youngest of six children.

Bette was raised on a 10-acre farm in Trumbull, CT where her family raised chickens, sheep, goats, cows, and worked large garden plots. Bette worked at Avco Lycoming as an Executive Assistant before retiring after 36 years.  She cherished her time there as well as the co-workers that became her lifelong friends. One of her fondest memories was when she and her co-workers were cast in a musical production called "Color It Pink".  It was Bette's caring heart that attracted Tony Martinelli to her after being introduced by a friend.  After a short courtship, they were soon married and moved to Boca Raton, FL.  Bette and Tony spent 22 years together until Tony's passing in 2001.

Bette loved reading Danielle Steel, QVC shopping, playing cards, dinner with friends, attending family celebrations as well as the tradition of Sunday dinners.

Left to honor Bette and remember her love are Bette's sister Yolanda Demeree, nieces and nephews, Thomas (Donna) LaPlaca, Patricia Fehr, Joyce Harrington, Bob Stork, Kathy Wehring, Nancy (Bob) Rosa; sister-in-law Juliann LaPlaca and many great nieces and nephews. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gandolfo LaPlaca, sisters; Loretta Fehr, Peggy LaPlaca, and Gloria Centopani.

The family would like to extend gratitude to all the staff and Bette's friends at The Villas at Canterfield for their attentiveness, loving care, and friendship.  Bette will be remembered as a bright, shining light.  We will miss her strength, determination and love of life.  In loving memory donations may be made in Bette's name to Joyce Meyer Ministries @  joycemeyer.org/donate

When I moved to Florida in 2001 shortly after Tony's passing, Bette helped me out greatly.   We went out to eat often and I cherish those days. She knew where all the good Italian restaurants were in Boca! We had lots of laughs. Bette was always so helpful to everyone. I admired her as a "career woman" when I was young. She had a happy life and I will miss her greatly. Her memory lives in my heart.
