Wanda Janet Jacobson (Middlebrooks), born February 17, 1938, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 6, 2013. Originally from Grosse Pointe ,Michigan, she graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Medical Technology. She began a successful career as a Medical Technologist after graduation taking a break to raise her children and resuming her career until her retirement in 2005. She is survived by three children: Lynn Sullivan (Noel), Eric Jacobson (Jana), and Kristen Nations (Ken), four grandchildren: Mark, Conner, Slate, and Annika Nations, as well as her second husband Carl Middlebrooks, whom she met late in life and was her constant companion. She was predeceased by her sister Delphine Hancock and grandson James Nations. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years and the father of her children, Glenn Jacobson. Together they created a home in Dunwoody, Ga and later on Lake Lanier where they trained and showed dogs. She had many hobbies including Bridge, gourmet cooking, tennis and bowling but her true passion was her love of dogs. Together Wanda and Glenn created Glenwan Retrivers. She bred, trained, and competed with both flat-coated and golden retrievers in agility, obedience and conformation including the prestigious Westminster dog show. She had several dogs who were certified therapy dogs, including Lightning, who comforted her during her final days. She was a member of Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club, Atlanta Golden Retriever Club and Golden Retriever Rescue of Atlanta. Her family is thankful to Peachtree Christian Hospice who does the work of Jesus, providing both physical and spiritual care to their patients and families.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at McDonald and Son Funeral Home with Chaplain Michael Dean Myers officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
