Fred Stephen McDowell, 81, of Cumming, Ga, passed away on June 3, 2012, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Cedartown, Ga., on April 30,1931. Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus McDowell, and loving sister, Carmel McDowell Boswell.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Virginia Morris McDowell. Also survived by, daughters, Lynne (Garry) Mize, Cumming, Ga., Lauren (Dave) Terry, Franklin, TN; brother, Willis Lee (Jerry) McDowell, Cedartown,Ga; sister, Elaine (Roy) Anderson, Cedartown, Ga.; grandchildren, Brooke (Geoff) Duncan, Cumming, Ga, Clint (Stacy) Mize, Buford, Ga., Sarah (Jeff) Heath, Franklin, Tn, and Whitney Terry, Knoxville, Tn.; great grandchildren, Parker, Bayler, Ryder Duncan and Presley Mize.
Mr. McDowell served proudly in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Georgia State University and was employed by Eastman Kodak for over 32 years in management. Prior to his illness, he was an active member of the Cumming Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at McDonald and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the funeral home.
