Wilma Diaz-O’Kelley, 43, of Atlanta, GA passed on January 9, 2012 in Brookhaven following a long battle with breast cancer. Wilma was born in New York City, and was the daughter of the late Freddy Diaz and Argentina Diaz of the Bronx, NY.
Wilma graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School and Adelphi University in New York. She later moved to Atlanta and obtained her Masters from Georgia State University. Wilma will forever be remembered as a loving mother and warrior who inspired her family, countless friends and others with her grace, energy and determination in her battle with breast cancer. She was a spirited friend who was quick to smile and laugh and who required others to enjoy life as much as she did.
In addition to her mother, Wilma is survived by her beloved husband, John Michael O’Kelley, Jr., and three children, Jack, Jamie and Anna Kate O’Kelley of Atlanta; sisters, Anna (John) Martinez of the Bronx, NY, and Laura Akel of Millstone, NJ; brothers, Julio (Miosotis) Diaz of Yonkers, NY, and Freddie (Ariel) Diaz of the Bronx, NY; nieces, Julia Diaz and Natalie Akel; and nephews, John and Jeremy Martinez, and Christian, Elijah, Evan and Ethan Diaz.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 11 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 12 at the Cathedral of Christ the King. Interment will follow on Friday in Athens, Georgia.
